The MOTORINO™ CTl combines the traditional features of a the classic Omafiets, (low step-through frame, full chain guard, saddle bags, forward carrier) with modern features indlcuding alloy rims, powerful front V brakes and quality components like the Shimano Nexus 3 speed internal hub which allows the rider to shift at any time, even when completely stopped.
This bicycle is made to look like its elegant original however you would be hard pressed to know that it is an electric bicycle - the only give away is its high torque front motor capable of taking you up a 15% grade hill (provided you weight less than 170lbs).
The electric drive system is a Power Assist System (PAS) which engages the motor only when the rider pedals.
Unique Electric Drive Design
As seen on all 2011 MOTORINO™ bicycles, the electric drive system forbicycles has a unique motor and controller combination which allows the rider to accelerate from a standing start and provides ample torque for climbing hills.
The motor, integrated in the front wheel, can achieve a torque of 34NM; enough to climb 15° hills without pedal assistance while carrying a load of 170Lbs.
What makes the MOTORINO™ motor unique is the fact that it does not use hall sensors; a common point of failure in other electric motors.
Hall sensors are used in other electric drive systems to help co-ordinate the electric drive pulses from the controller to the motor based on the position of the magnets within the motor. This communication between the motor and controller allows for the motor to accelerate from a standing start; however if one of these sensors fail, the controller and motor do not work together to properly drive the bicycle forward.
To eliminate this point of repair, the MOTORINO™ electric drive system for bicycles uses an intelligent controller which supplies the electric drive pulses to the motor through a method called "predictive impulse stroke".
Quality Built In
All MOTORINO™ bicycles are built with high quality components they are certified to the European standard EN 15194, which strictly monitors the quality of 36 key components on the bicycle.
The classic style bicycles, CTg & CTl, have been designed by a European company and built for the European market. Currently it is very popular in Holland, Italy England and France.
The electric drive components are added onto the bicycle, rather than being embedded within the frame of the bicycle, making the system easier to maintain. Connectors used throughout the electric drive system are water resistant so you may ride in the rain without worry.
The batteries are built from Panasonic LiFePo4 cells which offer a longer cycle life over standard lithium ion cells, are non-toxic and have an excellent thermal stability making them virtually incombustible in the event of mishandling during charge or discharge.
